ABOUT Oran Root
Oran Root is a 51-year old South Kitsap native, local business owner, and a decorated Marine Corps combat veteran. He spent most of his youth in Manchester and attended South Kitsap schools from 2nd grade through High School. He was active in sports and participated in theater.
After high school, Oran worked underground construction, volunteered as a resident firefighter while concurrently attending Olympic College. In 1994 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served for 24 years, including tours with the 1st & 3rd Marine Expeditionary Forces and Marine Corps Special Operations Command(MARSOC). He has multiple combat tours in Southwest Asia including Iraq and Afghanistan.
While on active duty he studied at American Military University-Business Management and Economics, San Diego State University-Arabic, Middle Eastern Studies, and advanced Joint Military leadership. Today, he owns OSCAR 6 LLC providing high level worldwide Special Operations consultation and pre-deployment evaluation. He also works in the land use management and property investment sector.
After successfully establishing and expanding his business, he and his wife Melanie agreed that Oran has much more to offer.
He and his wife Melanie researched and deeply discussed what Oran can do to fulfill his continued sense of purpose and serving once again. They both agreed this chapter he will serve as a community servant leader representing his valued neighbors with poise and compassion wanting to set the example for others to emulate, especially his five children who are the next generation of leaders.
serving kitsap county:
Oran plans to bring his vast military and in depth private sector experience to county government, and will provide much needed small business perspective to address the impacts and challenges local government often creates. Oran is not a bureaucrat nor a career politician. He understands he will not agree on everything but is a true professional who can work closely collaborating with the current board of commissioners and other political and community leaders in the best interest of our future.
He is an advocate for affordable housing and a balanced, sensitive approach to growth. Oran understands it is fine line between preserving our natural environment and making sure we can house all of our neighbors. He served as a senior advisor and member of the Escondido Fish and Wildlife Preserve, combining his passion for the outdoors and environment includes hiking, hunting, fishing and kayaking with a strong commitment to ecological and habitat protection and preservation. He is an active SK Rotarian, Chamber of Commerce and a lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and U.S. Marine Corps Executive Association.
Oran retired from the Marines honorably to dedicate his time to his family – wife Melanie, their five children and four grandchildren – and to build his business.
But service is Orans DNA. He protects those who can not protect themselves: He served as a youth team leader for young men without fathers, and also dedicated time to teaching self-defense to domestic violence survivors. As a member of a child trafficking recovery program through his church, Oran assisted in planning, recovery and logistical efforts.
Now he continues his purpose to serve you. His local and worldwide experience in austere geo-political sensitive environments, his integrity, deep commitment to country and common sense yet methodical approach to challenges sets him apart from the pact.
